![]() ![]() ![]() This are the same maps as the ones found in the original book though they are printed on a heavier, glossier paper. A large fold-out map features the domain of Barovia on one side and the rooms of Castle Ravenloft on the other. They are foil stamped in a way to give them an otherworldly shimmerThe purist in me would have preferred something tarot sized but I understand resizing the evocative Chuck Lukacs art would have made that difficult if not impossible. They are roughly the size of a deck of jumbo playing cards (4” x 5.5”). These cards are a larger version of the playing card sized deck released in 2016 which are now very hard to find. A large Tarokka deck is the other main attraction of this boxed set. ![]() ![]() The fortune telling cards are important to the adventure and to the setting, as they are used to determine the locations of the artifacts that will help the heroes escape as a nod to the replayable element of the original 1983 module. A booklet on the Tarokka Deck explains the Vistiani artifact. This includes Strahd, the rivals and hunters who want to destroy him and the monsters unique to this adventure. Creatures of Horror puts all of the important creature and NPC stats into a separate booklet. The original adventure focused primarily on hunting down Strahd in his castle, Ravenloft, but this version expands to adventures throughout his domain to find the items necessary for the players to get home. Players are drawn to the realm against their will and must find out a way to slay the darklord once and for all to escape. The titular Strahd is the Darklord of Barovia, a spooky domain surrounded by inescapable mists. Curse of Strahd Revamped is the Fifth Edition retelling of the classic Castle Ravenloft module. It’s enough to make a Dungeon Master want to drive a pencil through his heart. As an added bonus, the boxed opens up into a lush illustration of Strand in his funerary shroud, complete with the vampire lord’s statistics on the back of the cover sheet. Their burnished black and silver aesthetic really fits the Ravenloft settings. The box is designed by hydro74, who has given deluxe products like this a very distinctive look. ![]()
